Thanks to Julie D., Mom Since 1998 (MS’98) for bringing this provocative report she saw on WBUR Public Radio to my attention. The Boston Public Health Commission’s teen violence prevention program released its 2nd Annual “Top 10 List of Healthy and Unhealthy Relationship Songs,” basically, evaluating the “music” our tweens and teens consider “fun.” The song they feature in the video is one that makes me cringe every time, and I’m quick to turn the dial. Seeing Eminem/Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” is revolting:

Interesting program, and I like the connection between songs and relationships, because so many kids are weaned on songs & videos depicting good – and bad – ways of relating to each other. As a journalist, I’m the last person who would advocate true censorship, but I’m wondering how much airtime messages like this deserve when they’re reaching such young ears…

What do you think?
