Online Safety Tips from Google
Washington Family Magazine recently highlighted some great online safety reminders from Google, edited here for The Lounge:
1. Use privacy settings and sharing controls.
2. Protect passwords. Remind your kids not to “remember” or give out.
3. Help prevent viruses.
The full text of these tips are available at (I had no idea this existed but am glad to find it!) Google’s Family Safety Center. There are some great links to safety tools, advice on inappropriate content and cyberbullying.
This led me to a link I had heard about and looks very interesting to explore. Google’s Safety Tools page teaches you how to implement “SafeSearch” so your kids don’t inadvertently stumble upon explicit content.
Here’s a video from Google’s Vic Gundotra, VP Engineering (and a Dad) – he makes a good point that your computer operating system should have controls in place for restricting the sites your kids visit:
