TIME Magazine’s provocative cover of a 26-year-old mom wearing skinny jeans and a revealing tank top nursing her almost 4-year-old son has made loads of headlines. The headline, “Are you MOM ENOUGH?” lures you into an article on why attachment parenting drives some mothers to extremes. Funny sidebar…Slacktory’s “Best Breastfeeding-Toddler TIME Magazine Cover Photoshops” is hysterical…they have various “versions” photoshopp’ed.
The photo sparked lots of controversy, generating people to say the mom “sexualized breastfeeding,” that a kid standing on a stool is not the “position” most think of when considering nurturing a child, and that the sensational cover was merely a ticket to sell magazines, not as representative of the topic, attachment parenting, as it could have.
Great segment with an interview with the mom, Jamie Grumet, and her son, who definitely had a “voice” on The Today Show below. What do you think? Too much? They get into the idea of kids sharing beds with parents. Does attachment parenting breed confident, happy children like the experts in this segment claim, or are there boundaries that are crossed here?
