Many thanks to Washington Family Magazine for letting me know about this great initiative, Healthy Habits Program, just launched to educate kids on hygiene and health and to reduce student absenteeism. Washington Family Magazine reports that the “common cold (alone) results in 22 million lost days of school for students…yet research shows that…hand washing can (reduce) lost school days by 26%.”
The initiative aims to teach kids about “hand/surface hygiene, nutrition, and physical activity,” according to the article. Here’s a link to the National PTA site overview of the program, including links to a free calendar, apps, and more. And the sponsor’s site (program presented by Lysol, in collaboration with the NEA and National PTA) has more kid fun including healthy habits materials and information on school programs.
