Planning Prevents Chaos

As you can imagine, I have become a magnet for “business of motherhood” stories. It’s so fun — everyone has an idea, a story, a tip, and I devour every one. Clearly, it validates my position – not to sound like a broken record, but motherhood is indeed a job, and we can be more productive at every turn through collaboration, organization, and other 5-syllable words. Nicole G., at Arlen M.’s birthday lunch, shared a delicious tip. She and her hubbie (at HIS urging, mind you!) started a Sunday planning meeting. The CEO’s (mom & dad) and staff (the girls) meet to plan meals for the week and to discuss after school activities. The meal discussion lets her write a grocery list & shop for the week; plus, she plans for leftovers and rotates meat, chicken, fish. Nicole prints and posts her Palm pilot schedule, complete with activities and meals, and the kids love it! Sounds like a water cooler discussion forum! It gives them a sense of order, and involves everyone in the weekly plan. I love it! (BTW – Nicole approved this post!)
